Lecture at “Kölner Tage Datenschutzrecht 2017” on online marketing
Dr. Stefan Drewes will give a presentation on the topic of “Online marketing: What else is possible?” at the seminar “Kölner Tage Datenschutzrecht 2017” on June 20, 2017. In this context, Dr. Drewes will address the impact of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as the draft regulation on electronic communications (e-Privacy Regulation). The lecture will show in a practical way which requirements apply to the use of online marketing.
The presentation will focus on the requirements to be observed in user tracking and re-targeting and whether personalization of websites is feasible without the consent of the person concerned. The e-Privacy Regulation will replace the provisions of Section 15 of the German Telemedia Act (TMG) and impose new requirements on the use of cookies. It is planned to extend the cookie consent requirement for cookies whose operation is not necessary for viewing the websites. In this respect, website providers will be faced with new challenges, the solution to which will be outlined in the presentation.
